new installation, from svn

hmm..

I finally got the new installer back up and running, had some issues with the character format of the language files, but ATM that is sorted, and I now have Norwegian in the db defaults..

.. but when I got the site running I was presented with an "empty page", not the home page the used to show.. and even though I have done a lot of work with eoCMS, and the skinning of it, I was kinda at a loss where to start..

as part of a "fresh" install, it would be good to have stuff that people can change, withe all the predefined stuff pointing you toward admin to change it, like a walk through

NOW.. what is supposed to come up on the first page, index, no action..? I was lucky to find login, and knew what admin was Smile

Then I noticed there where no panels, I'm so used to eoCMS website, I expected them to be there, and that I could, or would turn them off, so I add the user_info, cos I know what that does, and where it goes.. [s]its added, but it does not show up...(this is now showing up, it might have been delayed somehow, my machine is running like a dog pumped full of lead) (heh, it does not show up on the forums page Smile )

MWHAHAWHHAHAHA:
Quote:
Display on all pages? (If No then the panel will only be displayed on the home page)

should show in all by default, also when adding boards, or anything under the same categorey, the form shouldcom back with those settings

So then I go to add a new section, remembering thats what was there before (the last install I did) so (after fixing a missing authid) I added a category, and go to ad some new.. well, no I dont, I click, I enter, I get the error console open, but nope, no can create news..

anyways.. while I had the error console open, as I came here to spill the beans, I get 2 CSS errors in the EGI theme, one is a color, i can find that, but the oher was the following, its unsupported by FF2, and I think it may be element specific..
Code:
.help{
display: inline-block;
}

so whats up, did I do something wrong? At first I thought I'd completely broken the SQL, but the site functions, not errors, (except when sqlite errors, and then it says sqlerror erorred, expected long, recieved resource, but I think I know what that is)

The forums page (without panels, cos the left one does not show up) seems to look like it wants to fit in between two panels (I will have a look at it, it works fine when there is at least 1 entry), or is that because there is no content to pad it out (yes), but the the stats under it seem to want to take up the entire screen (cos there is no left panel set). I thought it was something I did to IndexForum, but when I changed it, it made not difference.. (duh)

So, is it supposed to be this way, can someone at least confirm the SVN installs this way, so I can stop having heart attacks, and get on with fixing up the old girl..

:)

PS - a help on that CSS would be a start, otherwise I'll just delete one half of it.. done

PSS - hell after the last hour, I just might delete this post before anyone gets to see it Smile

Re: new installation, from svn

Installs are meant to be blank but not completely blank. There should be a homepage page saying eoCMS installed etc, and there should be a login link and admin link as well. Dont want to add loads of panels etc by default, most people prefer adding what they want and not having to remove loads of stuff

Please do not PM me requesting support or anything, use the forums, thats what they are here for

nope, it is their when I click Home from the pages in admin, but is in Norwegian, woul that make a difference..

yes the basic links were there, I was (obviousl) a bit shocked.. Smile

re: removing, if they were orientated to getting you to do so, then those online toggles will be useful..

I think we need an image or something on the page that shows after the install... as it looks a little bare at the moment. Also, another neat option for the installer would be to choose which themes were installed so as not to waste space/time deleting the theme folder when users don't need to.

Re: new installation, from svn

I was thinking of creating a set of defaults that would basically be a walk through for changing things

"to turn this off, goto Admin, Panels, and toggle users_online to offline"

"to edit this, goto Admin, Plugins, and edit navbar"

"Welcome.. blah blah, to edit this got to..."

Yeah I think that would be a good idea. Or, if you're like confuser or you're just BORING you could have an option in the installer to make a blank install instead (or an install for 'advanced users')

yes, I was thinking about that "noob install" option, which I will now call "TGPEG INSTALL"..

By the way, that would allow for (later) adding different types of default site layouts and plugins..
