Languages

if anyone is that has an SVN build wants to start adding a language, things are upto the stage where by the time you need them, the other language files will be done. I am not on 100% sure, and there are some that need a lot of files checked first (panel & functions) but I an pretty much sure they are all there..

drop a line here if you are interested and I'll send you instructions. BTW you only need the SVN if you want to test what you are doing, if not, a zip can be supplied..

Re: Languages

I still think panels should not require a manual edit of the language file, same with functions...

Please do not PM me requesting support or anything, use the forums, thats what they are here for

Re: Languages

I would say yes only if the panels were moved to plugins, and a TYPE was attributed to the plugin (in this case PANEL)

basically from what I can gather from past threads, Panels where never meant to be added to, just "default" plugins that came with eoCMS, that only did panel output (simple plugins)

if thats the case, then its better to have them all in one page, as that cuts down on how many includes are needed per page, since most panels are on all pages, it is an "resource economic boon"

there nothing stoping peeps from supplying panels with their own language files. It just makes language updates and additions "easier" cos its 7 less files, plus there are generic terms in them too. with the uselangfile you can include another or different language file if its available (the quick search uses the search language file, I think..)

The other thing with panels as opposed to plugins, most of the content is static, which is why I added quite a few alternate ways to put together the quick search plugin (when -info is in the admin, check the index file)

the other bonus is, if you are writing a panel you can use the other text without having to know the panels name (or folder at least) and its commented too, to make it easier to read..

Re: Languages

plus its easier if everything is in one place (so make panels plugins)

I'm not really worried about eoCMS, devs or otherwise, they will figure it out, but others, not so easy, its about as complicated as it can be atm and still be simple, and atm I dont expect people to do languages for plugins (apart from the standard ones, I slip those in there)

The language files for the plugins, being seperate and in the plugins folder makes sense, only for packaging the plugin, otherwise it would be simpler to have a plugins folder in each language folder, but that would require someone to maintain it..

as it is, I was on the money with the Norwegian language, is structure is so like english that I can "devine" when the translator give me the wrong answer, or one in the wrong context (ie posts, as in mail, not door frames or fence posts)

Re: Languages

I'm also ok with translating into french although my french won't really encompass technical language. I can give it a shot though.

Re: Languages

there are some things missing, but that might just be missing from PM's (there is not a DeletePM's, just a deletepm function)

what about "dizains Izskats". Not all english can be translated into one word. Its more important that it makes sense to the person reading it, as opposed to making a one for one  translation of the english text
