emoticons help?

I have a problem showing the emoticons. IF i'm going to comment a page with ex Sad the out come should be Sad. But no the result is still ":'(". But in the messages it works. help!

Do you type the ":'(" or do you click the emoticon image? Also, emoticons wont work without a space before the code ie this works Smile but this doesnt:)

if i click the image of emoticons the text will appear to the not the image? how's that? i enable all the emoticons in the admin.
