umm.. just a panel under the lefthand Navigation

Yeah. That also makes it a possibility in future updates to (and this would be a mammoth task I presume) allow admins to edit panels/page content in place, rather than having to go through the admin panel, a bit like editing topic titles at the moment.

It would be possible to do with JavaScript actually. The only difficult thing would be physically moving the panels from different areas.

I see two suggestions here:
1) a panel with the eoCMS box graphic in it (for the site) on the homepage
2) an inline edit facility for panels (for users with admin rights) (for the eoCMS itself)

re: panel movement, just bounce to the relevant admin section, or once the panel assignment has been changed/made reload the current page
