Announcing eoPanel!

eoPanel

http://cpanel.files.bradstutorials.com:3021/images/eopanelbanner.png

We all know cPanel, and Plesk (not so much?), we all know the extortionate prices for them, we all know how brilliant they are.

Well, I was thinking of money. Something I wish I had. I looked at buying cPanel for my server. $1000 for 3 years!? No thanks.

So,I thought, eoSoftware is targeted at web applications, and why not have a control panel to accompany our projects. So I thought of this.

Feature List:

  • Modular: Only install the control modules you want

  • Uses Open Source Software: Only uses free software to drive it (Apache2 etc)

  • Moddable: Can be modified to suit your needs

  • Coded in PHP: Coded in PHP to be easily modded

  • Secure: We focuse on your servers security, and make it as secure as is possible

  • Easily installed : Just follow the installation instructions, just a few terminal entries to install apache etc, then you can configure it all from the eoPanel UI

  • Themeable: eoPanel will be themeable. Why stop at adding your logo to the panel? Use an eoCMS theme or hire one of our talented designers to do the dirty work for you

  • Copyright Removal: For just $70 you can fully remove the copyright at the bottom of the panel.

We are looking for developers that have experience in Apache2 (Shell Configuration), DNS, [Mail], and can code in PHP/MySQL, and are familiar with Subversion (SVN) and possibly SSH

Designed For *nix systems. Not available for Windows.

Oh yeah, one more thing, the default theme is a glossy vista one. So get used to it or make your own xD

Sounds good. Would be useful if it could 1-click install our software as well. Would tie the products together nicely.

Re: Announcing eoPanel!

Yeah it will do.

Atm this is the only coding I have done on it. And the only coding I will do until I hopefully get 1 more developer, and eoChat is stable enough

*that will eventually be eopanel Wink

Re: Announcing eoPanel!

Like everything we make, it will be fully compatible (and enhanced) for the other projects, but it will be available as a standalone project, so yes, you will be able to download it without eoCMS/eoChat (although it will include a one-click installer for them)

Re: Announcing eoPanel!

I believe you will need some other languages besides php to complete this task.  You wouldn't have to use perl but I do not think you have enough control using just php though.

Re: Announcing eoPanel!

Yeah, I was just looking at it now, PHP will do the config files, but not restart services etc.

I will probably also need to use something like python for that.

Im also looking into how authenticating against the local user database, instead of using PHP/MySQL

Re: Announcing eoPanel!

As far a a *NIX system goes, have it use its own user system but be able to sync/port the system users to the panel system for ease of use.  That way you will have the panel only system that will work on windows and nix and you can add in the users and permissions from that as a module

Re: Announcing eoPanel!

Yea, if you are planning on doing both that is a LOT of extra work as they are two totally different systems.  I was assuming you were sticking with apache, mysql, php type deal obviously allowing for easy configuring of the parameter files, config, and ini files.

The hardest part becomes learning how to properly set up all of the different systems for each type of server automatically. Once you get past that its mostly cosmetics.

ATM We are just focusing on *nix systems, instead of doing 2 at once.

I hope reviving two year old threads is acceptable.
PHP can use system() to run shell commands if apache is running with sufficient permissions.
